Art Shapiro, professor of Evolution and Ecology at UC Davis will share his thoughts on the "insect apocalypse" happening around the globe – and the state of butterflies in Northern California. Dr. Shapiro has spent the last 35 years collecting data on over 150 different butterfly species in an effort to monitor butterfly population trends in our changing climate.
Tora Rocha, founder of the Pollinator Posse, talks about her favorite nectar plants and gardening practices for making a pollinator-friendly difference no matter where you garden!
1 pm: Angela Laws- Monarch ecologist from Xerces Society and Mia Monroe Xerces volunteer will discuss how your gardening practices can help the plight of CA Monarchs.

Pollinator Posse – Co-founders Tora Rocha and Terry Smith and Jackie Salas, horticulturalist for Children's Fairyland will be available for questions. Their group specializes in fostering Monarch caterpillars and butterflies and creating much-needed habitat in the urban jungle.
Andrea Hurd of Mariposa Garden Designspecializing in songbird, butterfly, and pollinator habitat gardens using CA native and pollinator-friendly plants shares methods for designing meadows for butterflies.
Andy Liu, Landscape Architect and garden designer specializing in butterfly habitat, explains why his neighborhood is alive with Swallowtails, Gulf
Fritillaries and many other winged wonders.
Suzanne Clark, Sonoma County Master Gardener and butterfly whisperer will show how to rear caterpillars and the benefits of gardening for habitat.
Robin North – garden designer specializing in pollinator and songbird habitat gardens in the North Bay shares ideas for designing Sonoma County habitat gardens.
Alameda County Master Gardeners – will be on hand to show how to garden for native pollinators. |
