One of the most spectacular of the larger agaves, growing into a 3’ by 5’ rosette with thick silverish, bluish and surprisingly soft leaves (perhaps an indication that it is not for a blazingly hot spot in your garden). Though originally from the limestone slopes of Mount Guiengola in Oaxaca, it prefers a bit of shade to protect against sunburn. Grow in soils (or in a big pot) with good drainage and a good mix of sun and shade, depending on your climate. After 15-25 years, it sends up a 6’ spike, blooms and dies like most agaves do, leaving behind seeds and pups for the future.
